About us
Childline has been leading the charge to protect vulnerable children and promote children’s rights for 23 years. Understanding that there is strength in unity, we don’t work alone. We partner with other parties interested in protecting these children too, working collectively to making a difference to those children whose lives we touch – for in the end, every child’s story deserves a happy ending. This partnership approach gives us a unique and unparalleled ability to reach and assist many more vulnerable children in South Africa.Started under the umbrella of the SA Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, Childline Gauteng was subsequently taken over by the Johannesburg Children’s Home as a project comprising 2 telephone lines and 2 volunteers answering calls for help. Childline Gauteng has grown considerably since then and now operates from 5 Satellite offices within the province (Inner-city, Soweto, Tembisa, Katlehong and Sebokeng). Understanding that genuine caring for those who have suffered is the key ingredient in the healing process, our workforce of 42 torch-bearers devotes their attention to protecting the most vulnerable children in our society through a wide variety of services and programmes.
Committed people are our strength. The Board of Governors have provided bold and creative leadership. Our staff are purposeful, extensively trained and capable of building capacity. Our funding partners have provided a solid support base; and our association with Childline SA aims to develop a national body which stands at the forefront on policy issues pertaining to children.
