Every child's story deserves a happy ending....

EMOTIONAL ABUSE

Emotional Abuse is

  • When parents or caregivers withhold warmth and affection. It is also verbal abuse or parental indifference (uncaring attitude).

  • When parents or caregivers humiliate a child (make the child feel unworthy), lie to a child or threaten a child. It is also when a parent manipulates a child.

  • When parents or caregivers are inconsistent in disciplining the child.

Emotional Abuse is WRONG and it is AGAINST THE LAW!

If abuse is taking place in your family, phone Childline on 08000 55555 and speak to one of our trained, caring counsellors. It is a free call and you can call any time of the day or night from any phone. You don't have to give your name, if you don't want to.

Your child needs to be helped if they have been abused, otherwise they will build-up a lot of hurt and anger inside, which could lead to psychological and social problems. It is too often the case that "the abused becomes the abuser" - as child abuse is a cycle that begins with a child being abused and continues until the child is an adult, abusing his or her own children.

Help us stop the cycle of abuse.
