COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT OFFICES

In order to
provide comprehensive, accessible and culturally sensitive support
services across Gauteng Childline runs 5 community development
offices in the Inner City, Soweto, Katorus, Tembisa and Sebokeng
to address all forms of child rights violations.

Examples of services supplied out of
these offices are:

Awareness raising programmes on
National Children's Day and during Child Protection Week.

The Child Rights and
Responsibilities programme is offered, involving teachers'
workshops, and class discussions at 18 schools in each
community
-
A parents' workshop is facilitated
in each community
-
Individual counselling sessions in
each office
-
Family group conferencing and
indigenous family work is offered
-
Ongoing therapeutic support
group for parents of abused children
-
Provision of court preparation and
support for all survivors of physical and sexual abuse
-
The Childline Buddy project will be
piloted in Katorus during 2006.
-
Networking with relevant
stakeholders, including the Child Protection Unit, Social
Service Forums, Department of Social Development and health
professionals
