COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT OFFICES 

In order to provide comprehensive, accessible and culturally sensitive support services across Gauteng Childline runs 5 community development offices in the Inner City, Soweto, Katorus, Tembisa and Sebokeng to address all forms of child rights violations.  

Examples of services supplied out of these offices are:

  • Awareness raising programmes on National Children's Day and during Child Protection Week.

  • The Child Rights and Responsibilities programme is offered, involving teachers' workshops, and class discussions at 18 schools in each community

  • A parents' workshop is facilitated in each community

  • Individual counselling sessions in each office

  • Family group conferencing and indigenous family work is offered

  •  Ongoing therapeutic support group for parents of abused children

  • Provision of court preparation and support for all survivors of physical and sexual abuse

  • The Childline Buddy project will be piloted in Katorus during 2006. 

  • Networking with relevant stakeholders, including the Child Protection Unit, Social Service Forums, Department of Social Development and health professionals
